Tales from NamBun’s World – Gentle Stories from a Thai Writer’s Heart

Hello, and thank you for visiting the English-language section of Nithan NamBun, my storytelling website. This small corner was created to share a selection of my original tales with readers from around the world. I hope you’ll feel gently welcomed here.

These are not traditional Thai folktales. They come from my own imaginary world—a place where the sky might be pink, and leaves might be blue. It’s a quiet, whimsical space I’ve been building for decades, and I’d love to invite you to explore it.

One of my earliest inspirations came from Sweden, where I once studied puppetry. A friend introduced me to Astrid Lindgren, a beloved children’s author. I admired how deeply children connected with her stories. That moment planted a quiet wish in me: if I ever worked with children, I wanted to write stories that could bring them joy—just like hers did.

I began writing stories about thirty years ago, when I was in my late twenties. Over time, I’ve written more than 400 original tales. Every single one was first published in a well-known Thai magazine. Later, I shared them freely on this website, hoping children and families—especially those who couldn’t afford books—could enjoy them.

The journey hasn’t been easy. Many people have used my stories without permission—about 400 cases. I filed around 10 police reports and pursued one legal case. Even though I won, there are still many unresolved issues. At one point, I considered shutting down the website. But then I thought of the children who had done nothing wrong. Why should they lose access to stories that were meant to bring them joy?

So I made a quiet decision: I stopped publishing around 250 of my original tales, keeping only a selection that could still offer happiness. I also added other types of content, including timeless stories from world literature that are now in the public domain—hoping to spark curiosity and appreciation for classic works.

My stories have a distinct voice. Some children who read NamBun tales every day can instantly tell whether a story is mine—or not. I write only what I truly believe and feel. If I don’t believe in a message, I simply can’t tell the story. So when you read my tales, you’re also getting to know me.

This section is like a quiet invitation. I won’t claim these stories are the best. But I wrote them with all my heart, and chose each one with care. I hope someone—maybe you—will stop by and read.

Below are a few stories from my world—each one written with care, imagination, and a quiet wish to make someone smile. Click on any cover to begin reading.
